Time to revisit your fundraising policy?
Not-for-profit organisations are being urged to review their fundraising policy amid reports that mental health charity Beyond Blue rejected a $5000 donation after discovering that a Perth personal trainer raised the money from pornographic content uploaded on a subscription-based pornography platform.
Executive Director of the Institute of Community Directors Australia (ICDA) Patrick Moriarty (pictured) says having a fundraising policy ensures there is no uncertainty about what makes for an acceptable donation.

Come join a year-long celebration of community governance
The 2019 Festival of Community Directors <https://www.communitydirectors.com.au/icda/courses/?articleId=7588&utm_campaign=ongoing&utm_medium=email&utm_source=fundingcentre.com.au> , Australia’s first-ever year-long celebration of community governance has been launched this month by the Institute of Community Directors Australia (ICDA). The program is jam-packed with inspirational, informative and celebratory events, and maps an entire year of training and events to help not-for-profit board members plan for 2019.
This week is Social Justice Week <https://www.communitydirectors.com.au/icda/courses/?articleId=1254&utm_campaign=ongoing&utm_medium=email&utm_source=fundingcentre.com.au> and at Our Community that means reflecting on the lasting legacy of the late Joan Kirner. Each year, at the Communities in Control Conference <https://www.communitiesincontrol.com.au/?utm_campaign=ongoing&utm_medium=email&utm_source=fundingcentre.com.au> the Joan Kirner Social Justice Oration is always the most anticipated presentation. This year, Professor Helen Milroy will deliver the 9th Oration. Get Angry. Then Get Organised. Communities in Control 2019 is here.
The white-bread towns and suburbs we grew up in are now selling injera and hokkaido. Women are shouting, "Me too!" and "Time's up!" Gay people are getting hitched. Refugees are fighting back, shining a light on their plight tweet by agonizing tweet. Entire towns are opting out of the black power grid.
So how do we proceed? Tear it down and damn the consequences, or slow and steady wins the race? Is there a place in between? It’s up to us to decide. Come to Communities in Control <https://www.communitiesincontrol.com.au/?utm_campaign=ongoing&utm_medium=email&utm_source=fundingcentre.com.au> 2019 and do your bit.

Our Community House
A collaborative, creative, data-driven workplace for the social sector is opening in North Melbourne in February 2019.
Our Community House (OC House) is a world-first data-focussed co-working space for social sector organisations that brings together more than 400 not-for-profit and social enterprise (social sector) workers to share facilities, collaborate and rethink how change is made in Australia.
The building is designed to foster a fundamentally different work culture, one that respects its employees' desire for an authentic work-life balance, while offering the opportunity to shape the world.
It also includes the world’s first social innovation data science and communications lab, which is designed to help bring Australia’s social sector safely and productively into the data era.
