Hi all,

Please find attached details of a fundraising opportunity passed on by Coonabarabran Centre.

If any RDA(NSW) Centre would like to take up the opportunity for a UNE Taste-Test please contact Clare directly. Thanks to Coonabarabran for sharing this.

Kind regards

Nicole

Dear Glen and Aurely

Thank you so much for your involvement with the UNE Taste-testing fundraisers and for offering to pass on information to other RDA branches, this is so very much appreciated. We can travel to other locations and, as has been the case with the fabulous Coonabarabran community, we would appreciate their help/local contacts to gather other groups together to help share the travel costs to their location across multiple groups and multiple taste testing fundraisers….ie a series of events, as you have been doing with your RDA branch. We do have limited funds for travel within our region and I’d be very happy to discuss this with groups who are interested.

This email contains all the information that a new group will need to get started so please just forward it on and request they read through the email and attachments and then get in touch with me either by email or phone.

We know it’s been such a challenging time for community groups lately with ‘the usual’ fundraising activities impossible at a time when the call for innovation has led to unexpected costs for many organisations. So, our team at the University of New England has been working hard on developing taste-testing formats that keep us all covid-compliant while still being able to get those funds to where they can do some real good.

As a bit of background to the “UNE Taste-testing Fundraisers”, the University of New England’s Meat Science Department conducts taste testing sessions as part of their industry-funded (via Meat and Livestock Australia) research into the eating quality of beef and lamb. We are very happy to be able to donate $1000 to groups who participate in a taste-testing event with us.

As part of our response to the COVID lockdowns we have developed a fundraiser ‘series’ whereby a group can sign on for a series of $1000 events between now and December (the number of events is dependant on us having the available product to taste-test and your group’s ability to get together regularly).

It is very likely that this approach will not be run after December and we have limited places available for the ‘series’, however we also run one-off events for groups if that is more suited to how the group operates.

We currently have enough beef and lamb test ‘batches’ available to allow us to run 4 or possibly 5 taste-testing events between now and the end of the year with the next group that signs up.

This is very exciting as it represents $5000 for just 5 hours of the participants’ time, raised before Christmas and it’s a certain thing – if the group participants all turn up on time to participate in an event, then the group is certain to raise their $1000. This is rather different from a raffle, sausage sizzle, fete etc where you put in a lot of time but have no real control over the funds raised at the end of the day.

I have attached our flyer and information sheets which contain all the relevant information you need initially and here is a very brief summary:

*	$1000 donation to a group of 60 people for just one hour of their time
*	Simple, no clean up, no cost to you (excepting venue)
*	All 60 participants attend a one hour taste-testing session
*	Each person taste-tests 7 pieces of cooked lamb or beef and fills out a simple survey
*	The group of 60 is split up into small ‘sittings’ to keep us social distancing compliant
*	We ensure that the venue and seating/serving arrangements comply with NSW COVID restrictions, plus extra precautions that UNE has put in place to ensure responsible event management in these times
*	Groups need not be incorporated, nor a formal body; it could be a group of friends raising money for something
*	Groups can do a one-off taste testing event or sign up for a series of taste-testing events between now and Christmas

This is such a fun and easy way to raise funds. It’s so exciting to be able to put money out into the community in this way and participants can feel great about not only helping their community, but also supporting valuable industry research. Win win win.

We feel very privileged to be able to bring these events to Regional NSW and I look forward to talking with new groups about their involvement and to working with them to get much needed funds out into our regional communities!

Kind regards and many thanks,

Clare Mathiasen
