Community sector news from our network
<https://email.ourcommunity.com.au/t/r-l-thlkijhl-bjdhduksj-p/> Are not-for-profits being set up to fail? A push for minimum funding standards could help ensure grants cover real costs and drive sustainable outcomes.

Guided by female portfolio managers, Future Generation Women has been established with the aim of advancing economic equality and opportunity for Australian women and their children.
Did you know over $125 billion in grants is allocated across Australia every year?
An analysis of all Australian grants by the SmartyGrants data science team has estimated that total spending on grants distributed by federal, state, council and philanthropic sources is about $125 billion each year.
Here's the breakdown:
* Federal government: $38.5 billion
* State and territory governments: Approximately $75 billion
* Local governments: Over $155 million
* Philanthropy: Approximately $10 billion
It’s worth noting that not all that money is available via open, competitive application processes. Still, that's a huge pool of funding for not-for-profits, businesses, schools and individuals to tap into.

The biggest barrier faced by grant applicants: poll results are in!
We conducted a LinkedIn poll in November ( <https://email.ourcommunity.com.au/t/r-l-thlkijhl-bjdhduksj-yk/> follow us on LinkedIn if you haven't already) asking about the biggest barrier you face when applying for grants, and the results are in!
The top response? Time-consuming applications. This highlights a key challenge many applicants face when seeking funding: balancing the time required to navigate complex application forms with other responsibilities.

<https://email.ourcommunity.com.au/t/r-l-thlkijhl-bjdhduksj-jt/> Last month, we hosted a free webinar aimed at helping both new and existing subscribers to get the most out of their Funding Centre subscription.

Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions about navigating the Funding Centre platform and getting more value out of their subscription.
The webinar is now live and available to stream. Watch this space for more of these sessions in 2025.
