Involved Families and Communities

The Office of Sport celebrates the fourth year of the Working with Children
Week in recognition of over 1.9 million people with a Working with Children
Check clearance who contribute to the lives of the state's children in
sports, education, arts and community organisations.

This year's theme is Involved Families and Communities. As we know children
are safer when organisations are transparent about their practices with
parents, carers and families and consult them on children's development.

The Working with Children Week highlights child safety requirements in NSW,
including the Working with Children Check and the Child Safe Standards.

Organisations must do their part to involve families and communities in
their activities by: 

*	Making child safe policies and procedures accessible to families and
community members
*	Engaging in open, two-way communication with families and
communities about their child safety approaches
*	Encouraging families and communities to have a say in the
organisation's policies and practices
*	Keeping families and communities informed about the organisation's
team, operations and governance
*	Be proactive about keeping children and young people safe this
Working with Children Week

The Office of the Children's Guardian have provided a range of resources to
help promote Working with Children Week. You might also like to sign up for
the Working with Children Check webinar on 18 June.
