I just wanted to share with you all a beauetiful sentiment sent to me from a life member of RDA (NSW) in regards to Jan.

Indeed beautiful words Maureen.

Thank you and Jan is and will always be a true inspiration of RDA(NSW)

Hi Tracy,

Well I can’t say I am surprised, but oh what a loss Jan will be.

Her love for, her dedication to and her delight in RDA NSW will, I expect never be equaled.

How well I remember her commitment, her interest in all the achievements of not only the riders she knew but mine too. 

I remember way back in the eighties taking Jan out for an early morning ride along a stock route in Wagga. I leaned over and unclipped the lead, and her eyes welled up! She said, “we are just two people going for a ride!”

And at Doomben when I was State coach for the NSW team and Jan had an incident which necessitated a night in hospital. 

I was helping the others prepare for competition the next morning when Jan came into the stables, the conversation went like this.

Is my horse ready?

Jan you are not riding.

I am, let’s get my horse ready.

You are not riding. I am the coach and you cannot ride.

Maureen you know we can win if I ride. Without me we can’t.

So she rode!

It was a fair way from the stables to the arena so we loaded Jan on the back of a Ute and I led the horse down. We mounted her from the Ute. Every time she came past me I could hear her crying with pain. But we won! 

Such courage, such tenacity, such dedication to her team mates!

RDA NSW doesn’t yet know what it has lost with her resignation, but it will.

It is like losing Pearl all over again! The organisation will never be the same.

Dear centres, volunteer, life members and participants,

 

It is indeed a sad day when one of our long standing ladies, Paralympian Jan Pike OAM decides enough is enough.

I have included below Jan’s letter sent to life members.

Jans resignation within the organisation will indeed leave a large hole and she will be greatly missed by many.

I urge you that if you feel you have something to say – remember empathy, kindness and to rethink – is this really what I want to say.

Dear Life Members,

 

It is with the deepest regret that I have tended my resignation from the Board of Directors, a position I held the greatest respect for. The last few days have culminated in a very stressful and painful time for me. 

 

I will not go into detail but only hope and pray that the philosophies that have long been the foundation of this amazing Association are upheld and not replaced by people furthering their own personal agendas and need for kudos.

 

Thank you all for your support and encouragement over the years during my time as a Director.  I will still remain involved to the limited extent Life Members are allowed.
