RDA (NSW) Coaching

Our accredited Coaching program covers training for the following streams:

  • Riding programs – Coaches
  • Carriage Driving programs – Whips
  • Connections – Equine Facilitated Learning and Mental Health Programs

The content includes horsemanship, safety and risk management, and disability awareness, First Aid, coaching participants, selection and training of horses, volunteer and centre management.

We are always happy to hear from volunteers who would like to train to become a Coach. As a volunteer led organisation, our coaching team are the backbone of the organisation.

If you choose to go through our program, you will be supported all the way through the process – from Assistant Coach to a RDA (NSW) Accredited Coach. Assessment and training is overseen by the RDA (NSW) Coaching and Safety Panel (CASP) in line with the requirements of the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA).

Certificates are awarded based on the level of training: as Assistant Coach, Coach, Senior Coach or Assessor.

What do RDA (NSW) Coaches and Whips do?

RDA (NSW) Coaches and Whips are responsible for:

  • The initial assessment of participants
  • Horse suitability checks and training
  • Lesson planning and implementation of riding sessions
  • Oversight of volunteers and maintenance of adequate records
  • Supervision of Trainees and Assistant Coaches.

First Aid qualifications are maintained, whilst Coaching qualifications must be maintained by regular attendance at workshops and ongoing education and renewed every four years.
