Mounted Games
Mounted Games are a thrilling and dynamic equestrian sport designed to enhance the skills, confidence, and coordination of both horse and rider. These fast-paced games focus on agility, balance, and teamwork, making them a fantastic way to develop riding abilities while having fun.
What are Mounted Games?
Mounted Games include a variety of sporting challenges and races that test the speed, precision, and adaptability of horse and rider. Popular games include:
- Barrel Race – A timed event requiring riders to manoeuvre around barrels with precision.
- Flag Race – A high-speed challenge where riders must retrieve and place flags while maintaining control.
- Bending – A test of agility where horses weave through a line of poles at speed.
Whether played recreationally or in a competitive setting, Mounted Games offer an exhilarating experience for equestrian enthusiasts.
Compete in the RDA (NSW) Mounted Games & Championships
Registered riders have the opportunity to participate in qualifying competitions at the regional level, with the chance to secure selection for the RDA (NSW) Mounted Games and Horse of the Year Championships. This prestigious event, held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre, runs alongside the RDA (NSW) State Dressage Championships and the Gymkhana Gala Day.
The legacy of Mounted Games
Mounted Games originated in 1957 when H.R.H. Prince Philip sought to create an equestrian competition accessible to children who could not afford expensive, well-bred ponies. His vision has since evolved into an internationally recognised equestrian sport, fostering inclusivity, skill development, and a passion for riding.
