Dress Requirements For Riding Programs
Avoid loose flapping clothes as they can scare horses and get caught. Fitted clothes such as jeans and tops are better. Volunteer shirts are available to buy through the office. Hats are recommended for sun protection.
Wear closed-in shoes as horses can and do stand on feet. Heavy grade, comfortable shoes are recommended.
History
28th April 1979, members of the Hunter Adult Horseriding Club (HAHRC) paid a visit to RDA Kellyville. Following this, the Club started to investigate the possibility of establishing a RDA Group closer to home, as a memorial to one of its founder-members, the late George Hall.
A Demonstration Day on 16th September 1979 left no doubt that a group should be formed!
January 1980 use of 30 acres of land on the Pacific Highway, north of Raymond Terrace negotiated with Hunter District Water Board and BMG Pty Ltd. Regular riding began in May 1980 and by November 1983 there were 150 riders registered.
The Newcastle Group disbanded in 1987, but RDA at Irrawang Park was quickly restarted with the formation of the Raymond Terrace Group at the end of 1987. The name was expanded in 1988 to the Raymond Terrace & Lower Hunter Centre.
The emphasis is now on providing individual programmes tailored to suit the wide range and levels of disability of our clients. Specialised driving commenced 1993, dressage commenced in 1994 and a pilot Hippotherapy programme along with the more traditional recreational riding.
1993 our all weather covered riding arena, become a reality and in March 1995 work began on extensions to the indoor arena., comprising necessary amenities. In 2001 the arena was extended to permit 2 riding sessions to be held at one time and to permit a separate tie up area for horses and further storage and provision for spectator seating further down the track.
