Mounted Games

Mounted Game are aimed at being fun for horse and rider, while improving their co-ordination and confidence.

Mounted Games were the inspiration of H.R.H. Prince Philip who at the 1957 Horse of the Year competition asked if he could devise a competition for children who could not afford an expensive, well-bred pony.

This has been translated into RDA competition and the top events in NSW are the RDA (NSW) Mounted Games and Horse of the Year Championships held at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre in conjunction with the RDA (NSW) State Dressage Championships and Gymkhana Gala day. Riders participate in qualifying competitions at regional level to gain selection to compete in the State event.

There are a selection of sporting games and races that require and improve the agility of both horse and rider. Some of these games are the Barrel race, the Flag race and bending.
